APIAHF is currently accepting applications for 2 policy interns this summer. One will be in San Francisco, and one will be in Washington, DC. These are both paid, part-time internships.
We are looking for currently enrolled undergrads (at least junior level) or graduate level students in health, public policy, law, sociology or related field.

Summer Program Assistant Coordinators (Seattle, WA)
SUMMER INTERNSHIP:
SUMMER PROGRAM ASSISTANT COORDINATORS
VIETNAMESE FRIENDSHIP ASSOCIATION OF SEATTLE
Program Overview: The Summer Youth Program is an extension of the Educational Assistance for Student Empowerment (EASE) after-school program. After three successful years, VFA is now preparing for its fourth annual summer youth program. SYP is a program designed to build on students’ strengths to improve their academic and life potential. Youth will engage in academic enrichment, community service, field trips, and recreation. The 6-weeks program will be held three times per week Tuesday to Thursday from 1 to 5pm (with occasional fieldtrips outside those hours) at New Holly Learning Center, located at 7058 32nd Ave S., Seattle, WA, 98118. VFA aims to serve 20 students per level, for a total of 60 students enrolled in the program. These Vietnamese students will be primarily children from low-income families in the New Holly Neighborhood of Seattle, including many students who are residing in public housing.
We are looking for two Assistant Program Coordinators to work on the planning and implementation of this program.
Key Outcomes and Responsibilities
* Encourage students’ academic achievement and asset development through active learning
* Teaching/leading workshops on math, reading, writing, and science
* Design and implement asset-building components of the summer program including leadership workshops, encouraging students to explore and appreciate Vietnamese culture through hands-on educational activities.
* Plan and coordinate field trips
* Plan and coordinate community service projects
* Train and supervise high-school student volunteers
* Coordinate program logistics, such as snacks, attendance, etc.
* Ensure safety and well-being of all students
* Maintain a program environment that is conducive to learning
* Recommend appropriate educational protocols and procedures to increase program effectiveness
Essential Qualifications and Key Competencies:
* Has experience working with youth, especially low-income or newly arrivals.
* Is competent in middle school and high school math, reading, science, and other subjects
* Be open to Vietnamese traditions and values
* Excellent communication skills
* Is organized and highly flexible
* Can effectively work independently and as a team member
* Has reliable transportation or is proficient in using public transportation
* Able to safely lift up to 20 pounds (textbooks and supplies) on occasion
Terms of Employment: This is a 40-hour/week, 10-week summer internship position from 6/15/09 to 8/21/09, with training provided at the NAVASA conference May 13-16, 2009 in Washington DC.
Benefits:
· Upon completion of 400 hours of service ad 50 hours of training, interns will receive $1250 in education bonus that can be used for education purposes such as tuition or paying student loans.
* Gain skills in program planning, development, evaluation. Develop teaching and public presentation skills.

Apply for the OCA Summer Internship Program
Dear Friends and Potential Applicant,
OCA, a national organization dedicated to ensuring social justice for Asian Pacific Americans (APA), is now accepting applications for the 2009 Summer Internship Program.
Celebrating its 20th year, the OCA Internship Program seeks to cultivate future leadership by providing students an opportunity to be involved in the political process through a national organization. The program has successfully led past interns to become more active on their college campus, increased the presence of the APA community in local, state and federal governments, and encouraged interns to become leaders in the APA community and stay engaged with the APA community in their respective fields.
The OCA Summer Internship Program engages interns with numerous activities to bring to life all that Washington, DC has to offer. In addition, OCA will bring the interns to our annual national convention, the largest APA conference in the country. This year's convention will be in San Francisco from August 6-9. The convention will feature speakers, entertainment, workshops, and our signature gala. Applicants are strongly encouraged to make sure they are able to attend convention.
Summer interns will be placed at a full-time position in a federal agency, nonprofit, or congressional office that matches their interest. Interns can also be placed at the OCA National Center and work first-hand with one of the largest APA organizations in the country. In addition to their placement, summer interns will be highly engaged in many OCA activities and be involved with grassroots organizing.
For the summer session, the internship will last approximately ten weeks and a stipend will be provided. Applications will be reviewed by the Internship Committee and a telephone interview may be scheduled.
The completed application package should be sent in one package and should include:
* Application form
* Resume including extracurricular activities
* Academic transcript (copy is fine)
* One-page essay on your interest in participating in the OCA Summer Internship Program
* Two Letters of Reference

APAICS 2009 Summer Internship Program
I interned in 2007 in Washington D.C. and had a great time. In my time there, I was fortunate to meet a lot of people and organizations. One of the groups I got to know were the APAICS interns. While I didn't get to know all of them, I knew a few and they were a pretty tight group. Hence why you should continue their legacy and apply to become an APAICS intern. Work fast! The Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) invites college students to apply to the 2009 Summer Internship Program in Washington, DC. The term of the internship will be from June 8 to July 31, 2009.
APAICS is a non-partisan, non-profit, educational organization whose mission is to promote the participation of Asian American and Pacific Islanders in the political process. Through our internship program, APAICS hopes to encourage the political and civic involvement of young people, to foster their interest in political and public policy-related careers, and to develop their leadership skills.
APAICS places our interns in the U.S. Congress, federal agencies and institutions that further APAICS' mission. Interns attending continental U.S. schools will receive a stipend. Interns attending Hawaii schools, or who live in Hawaii or any of our Pacific Islands, will also receive a stipend and a small amount to help cover additional transportation costs. All interns will be required to complete weekly journals, and a program evaluation at the end of the internship. A schedule of intern activities, which will also be sent to the supervisors, will be provided upon arrival to Washington, DC.
